Guard Your Light

Ladies, we can be affected by someone’s negative spirit. Have you ever done something extraordinary – something that made you feel proud, accomplished, alive, put a smile on your face, and a pep into your step – only for someone to criticize it? You’re recognized for a great achievement, and no family members showed up to celebrate with you? Instead, they pick apart your effort, question your choices, and before you know it, the light that once glowed inside begins to flicker. Your joy turns into self-doubt. Your confidence begins to waver.
Sometimes, it happens more quietly. Someone pours out their pain, their frustration, their endless complaints – and without realizing it, you start to feel heavy too. Their storm becomes your cloud, and suddenly, you’re standing in rain that wasn’t meant for you.
We can be deeply affected by the energy of others – their words, their actions, their moods. And often, we don’t even notice how much it weighs us down until our spirit feels tired. We feel defenseless, hopeless, dismayed – or just… drained. Not only can people pull at our emotions but so can circumstances beyond our control: a sudden change, a disappointment, a door that closes when we expected it to open.
In those moments, it’s easy to want to hide – to stay in bed, close our eyes, and escape the world. But here’s what I’ve learned: we are not powerless. We may not control the storms around us, but we do control whether we let them live inside us.
The same mind that feels overwhelmed can also speak calm.
The same heart that hurts can also heal.
The same soul that feels lost can rise again with purpose.
We must guard our energy like it’s sacred – because it is. Not everyone deserves access to our peace. Not every opinion deserves space in our mind. Not every situation requires our emotional investment.
When negativity tries to settle into your spirit, stand taller. Breathe deeply. Remind yourself: I am still in control of me. Feel good about yourself – it’s allowed. I know it can be difficult when family members or friends don’t uplift you, take you seriously, or are jealous of you. That’s a heavy weight to function with. And yet, we play a part in how others treat us. Some of us try to keep the peace, avoiding confrontation because we don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. Others speak their truth boldly – and end up being left out. Either way, the lesson remains: surround yourself with voices that uplift you and experiences that remind you of your worth.
You are allowed to shine. You are allowed to grow. You are allowed to celebrate your wins without apology. Even when life feels heavy, remember – your resilience runs deep. You’ve made it through every hard moment so far, and you will continue to rise. It’s not easy, but it’s possible – with awareness and intention.
You were never meant to shrink to fit someone else’s discomfort—
You were meant to rise to the full height of your potential. Walk in Confidence!!
